Where I'm From
I'm from lasagna for dinner and leftovers for breakfast,
I'm from my Boo-Boo Blankie and "Mama, kiss it better,"
From the dirt fields and frozen pickle juice on the hottest days of the year,
I am from tall, loud, and strong,
Six dogs, two cats, and four people under one roof is where my life began,
I'm from three heart attacks before fifty and the mental issues no one warned me about,
I am from medicine that barely works to dark nights alone, trapped inside the walls of my mind,
I'm from music,
From "Darlin' you'll be okay," to the sweet sound of Andy Biersack melting away my barricades,
I am from fifty-something journals, all with a different purpose,
I'm from the ups and the downs of life,
I am from a small little girl with big brown eyes wanting to create myself.
