Where I'm From

I am from #7,

to the open door of my parent’s room,

calling me to come in.

I am from grandparents

like guidebooks leading me to success.

From cold hockey rinks to the locker room before games,

I am in a zone that nothing can break.

I am from going upstate every summer,

and hockey tournaments every year.

It is the escape plan,

to a beautiful landscape painting.

I am from smoke burning my eyes

to the sweet smell of smoked ribs.

The mountains in my eyeline from the porch

so idyllic that I put my feet up.

I am from my pet like a stuffed animal

to a mind reader

who can figure out anything about me.

I am from working hard

to doing homework in the car.

Dripping sweat every time I step off the ice.

From tired eyes after the long practice.

I am from the floor vibrating at the gym

to the silence of a classroom.

From blasting music

getting me ready for what awaits,

to the support from coaches and teachers.

I am from hanging out with friends

to being patched up with a band-aid.

Always repairing me after a tough loss or bruise.

I am from lying on the beach and poolside

to the lake in front of the cabin.

I am from feeling the smooth breeze hit me

to the sun beaming down on me from above.
