Where I'm From
I am from coloring with markers,
From Crayola and RoseArt
I am from the flower beds in the front yard,
Full and colorful,
It felt like Summer sunshine
I am from the Hosta plants,
The Blue Ash tree,
That provides shade in the backyard
I am from the baseball games and big brown eyes,
From Carol and Mitch
And Mason
I’m from makeup on early cheer mornings,
Hitting our routine,
Making Cheryl proud with our trophies,
I’m from the dinner on Sunday nights,
And church on Christmas Eve
From “Be kind to everyone!”
And “Everything happens for a reason!”
I’m from the weekly bible studies,
And knowing God has a plan
I’m from Kettering Medical Center,
Pancakes and iced tea
I am from reading things slowly
And taking it all in,
From Nicholas Sparks novels
And writing exactly how I feel
From the advice I hear from my mom,
And the hard working ability of my dad
I’m from the scrapbooks,
Filled with the best memories of my life
I am from Friday night lights,
Game-winning touchdown passes,
And knowing I wouldn’t want to be anywhere but here
I’m from running around on late Summer nights,
And seeing where sweet time takes us
From car rides with the windows down,
Music too loud,
And singing our hearts out
I am from the good times with friends and family,
And the smiles that they bring,
The memories that will never leave
