Where Im From

I grew up with practice on the weekdays,

Chanting “Go tigers Go!” on the weekends,

And Minnesota Vikings games on Sunday mornings.

I grew up with recess at the conclusion of the school day,

Scurrying home to play with my toy cars,

And getting to buy new ones at those spring yard sales.

I grew up with Christmas parties in the winter,

Dressing up in scary costumes in the cool fall weather,

And hunting for the golden egg in the relaxing spring sun.

I grew up idolizing my favorite NFL players,

From Randy Moss making defenders look childish,

To J.J. Watt using offensive linemen as practice dummies.

I grew up to Kenny Rodgers warbling “Love with turn you around”,

Darrell Waltrip yelling “let’s go racing boys!” at the start of every race,

And Kenny Chesney singing “Boys of fall” reminiscing on his football days,

I grew up watching SpongeBob flip patties at the Krusty Krab,

Zack and Cody driving Mr. Moseby insane at the Tipton hotel,

Or pondering how Thomas the Train would save his friends.

I grew up with my beloved cinnamon toast crunch in the mornings,

Grandma’s biscuits and gravy were yummy enough to eat for dinner,

And mom’s tacos always put a smile on my face.

I grew up with my loving pets to keep me entertained,

From Domino and his excitement when he meets new people,

or Gracie wanting to venture to the dog park every chance she gets.

I grew up with good memories,

I grew up with bad memories,

And i would not of wanted to be made the person i am today no other way.
