Where I'm From

I am from alarm clocks, and my laptop rocks. Mountains of snow, plies of puddles, straight down to my stuffed cuddles, the slippery slope is where I’m from. I am from “show me what your working with” and “work it girl”, from a mom telling me “slow down girl.” I’m from the soul food, collard greens, yams, and mac-n-cheese, oh girl please. all the way down to the ribs, causing drops on my bibs, giving me a mouthwatering taste, this I just don’t want to waste, satisfying my buds. I am from my grandma’s housecleaning, I understood her meaning, working hard for every cent she made, until her master made the trade, but her determination, could never be forgotten just like to Martin Luther King Jr. in the Civil Rights Era.
