Where i'm from

I am from a broken family,

From empty rooms and still packed boxes.

I am from the noises of the city,

guns, screams, deafening people, and death.

I am from crushed hearts and sorrow filled nights,

hurtful words that will never be forgotten.

I am from a dead mother and killed way too soon brother,

From I knew you were going to leave too,

I’m not surprised that I’m still in this room.

I am from the memories that can’t escape

and the scars that will never fade.

I’m from First Baptist Church,

the only place I am actually welcome.

I’m from faking a smile, pretending everything’s alright.

From Why did you stay?

When everyone else walked away.

From bloody blades to carefully hidden where they will stay in there place.

The used to be family of ten.

The pictures that are always there

Where I will hold them close--

Because that’s the only way to know,

They ever existed.
