Where I'm From

WHERE I’M FROM

I am from sports

From baseball bats and basketballs

From long summer weekends at the ball field

I am from hot summer days jumping on the trampoline in the backyard

And the two furry cats meowing down the hall

From the smell of evergreen trees and fresh squash in the back garden

I’m from a pickle in the Christmas tree and Saturday night movies

From John and Lois

I’m from board games and running the bases after Geezer games

I’m from Wii Bowling and My Little Pony

From every little thing being a competition

And dad telling me “There’s no crying in baseball”

I’m from ‘ripping’ gifts at brother Jim’s house

And always crying after

I’m from Middletown and Atlantic City

From Shepherd’s pie and chicken in spaghetti

I’m from a ‘hit the lights’ 12th birthday party

With glass on the floor and screaming pre-teen girls

I’m from Old pictures, videos, and memories of my dad

Trapped in my head with no more to be made
