Where I'm From
Where I’m From…
I am from the vast land of Africa,
the land of my father and mother.
I am from the womb of Agnes and the heart of Austin.
Bullets flying and Grenades bombing,
people dropping like flies,
the motherland being destroyed
are the memories I remember the most.
From New York to Philly
to Alabama and Florida,
I have had my fair share of traveling.
I am from Hurst to Bedford,
from Harrison Lane to L.D. Bell.
I am from regular classes to advance classes.
From high school to college,
as a student to a missionary doctor.
I am from my heavenly father, Jesus,
from hatred to love
from war to peace.
I am from a Christian home.
From bible study to Sunday school,
my life revolves around the Church.
I am from a pastor house and a nurse’s home.
From religion to education,
my life continue to progress forward.
I am from the International Baccalaureate program,
in which I joined at the age of 16,
to prove that Africans can be just as smart and hardworking.
I am from an honorable family.
From pastors to deacons,
from nurses to mothers.
I strive to make my parents proud.
Always remembering that Jesus loves me
is what motivates me.
To my past classmates and future lifelong friends,
always remember that Jesus loves you
