Where I'm From

In English class, on day number one,

Play-Doh was given, the learning begun.

As the box's lid was gently undone,

Its fragrance whispered memories, like morning sun.

Play-Doh's scent, through time's door it did soar,

Rekindled my inner child, like the smell of a new box of crayons did before,

In colors and memories, my heart did adore,

A timeless realm of joy, forever to restore.

I am from barbie dolls on the floor,

From Max and Ruby playing on TV

I am from my artwork of scribbles on the wall's canvas space,

While Mama's camera is held at my face, 

a constant presence in my place.

I am from bubble baths where the rubber ducks would float, 

from alphabet soup in my tinkerbell plate, finding words to quote

from strawberry milkshakes, sweet and pink, a childhood anecdote.

I am from neighborhood friends calling me out to play

From breathing in the scent of bug spray.

Up the trees we climb, reaching for the sky

Till the sun began setting, painting colors so high.

And as daylight dimmed, the darkness held near,

Stars would emerge, whispering secrets so dear.

I am from lullabies sung in the soft, moonlit night,

From dreams taking flight, in the gentle starlight,

I am from scraped knees and adventures, both great and small,

“Don’t worry Mama, it was just a fall”.

So here's to the memories from long ago,

To the joys of childhood that forever flow,

From Play-Doh's scent to the adventures we know,

And the magic of childhood that continues to grow.
