Where I'm From

I'm from bare feet
From hard weeks and Sunday rest
 I'm from long dusty paths
 From overly concerned neighbors
(Who smelled like Sunday dinner mixed with cheap perfume)
I'm From "Be seen and not heard"
From hugs and kisses upon entrances and exits
From Ham hocks and real mashed potatoes
I'm from "you put your foot in this"
"Pole cats" And "slow as black molasses"
I'm from Honor thy Father and Mother
Written in bold letters along with the other 9 commandments
 I'm from sacrifices for love
From twisted tales passed along the road
No earthly being is higher than family
 Everyone is family
