Where It Hurts

I have convinced myself each headache is worse than the last,

But heartbreaks are nothing.

Physical manifestations of pain are the only ones that count.

I hear your burden, I do.

I long to reach out my hands and hold you steady.

Gently. I wish.

I cannot bear the weight of my body walking,

How can I love those who crave it?

I ignore my wild heart,

Love without thought,

And lose my consciousness to the heaviest pulse.

Hi! My name is Elizabeth Davenport, and I'm a college student who loves all things language, no matter what language it is! I'm probably reading, writing, or dancing in the rain right now. I'm a featured poet, Aura, on diesandnoctis.com (go check them out: they're great!), and use the names E.D., Elie Dav, and Elizabeth Davenport when posting my own.
