Where I've Come from to Where I've Been
Where I’ve come from to where I’ve been,
It’s amazing to see how far I’ve overcome,
The journey traveled, while over the past 24 years of the progress made.
The experiences and mentors I have met over the little time and continuing to come.
As I start expressing my story, I want to share with you; I am not like everyone else. I mean who is.
I struggle day in and day out hopefully someone, somebody can relate to my story.
Epilepsy at 14 months old, while being deaf at birth.
I overcame them both.
While I got bullied along the way, all I felt like doing was running.
My mom was and still is my biggest foundation, and only foundation too at the time.
She is sometimes and always my biggest support, when it comes to health, friend, and caregiver.
Anytime in my life when I need a friend, she is there, a mom, she is there, when I need support and I don’t listen to my support…. that is on me.
As I express feelings and emotions through writing, I either like what I see, or I don’t.
Like looking through a mirror and seeing the good and bad parts of yourself. When the bad out ways the good I have a problem.
Where I’ve come from has been sad and traumatic, however, I am still here today!
I am a survivor who has grown up to believe I am still a victim, however, I am conquering even through the pain and hurt that comes up.
As I share in this book “Darkness,” the vulnerable truth about me, through poetry, I want you to take in the metaphors being said and try to relate to my story.
Ask yourself, what saved you?
I ask myself that question daily, as writing is my way to communicate.
As my belief system and sense of purpose, brought me home, out of grief, despair of myself and hate.
I still have a bit of bitterness, who else can relate?
I am still working on a few things I dealt with in the past, that are hard for me to say,
Emotional abuse and mental abuse are the big ones as I am controlled every day.
I am an easily influenced young adult, easily manipulated.
Growing up the mental health took effect, and I did not want to accept myself.
I deal with more than one diagnosis, yes.
Where I’ve been is, I am 24 and not even halfway through life.
As I continue my journey, I want to say, I am a young author learning the ropes, trying to understand how to journey through this life we call time.
As reality begins to hit me like a rock, I want to tell you,
Reality is not what it seems.
Me being an author was that; just a dream. At least to me. I didn’t realize there were other plans for me.
As I found guidance through my mentors, I found faith in myself. I published my first ever book, and I am happy all around.
I have been published in high school before as a poet, in a contest. It didn’t make me an author because it wasn’t my own personal book.
I got to say, “the journey I take must be the route I choose to make. Sometimes I fall but I try, try again.” - Faye Rose
