Where I’m from

I am from the torn up teddy bears
From singing songs and dancing everywhere
I am from the mountain tops
And the train engines that never stop
I am from the large pine trees
Whose long thorny branches shaded me
I am from the many drawings and listening to pop music
From a Kimber and a Yiakas
I am from "be careful" and "behave"
From "try your best to get good grades"
From movies on a Friday night
To praying by the candle light
I am from Charles Yiakas and Joan Armstead
From eating koludia and ice cream before bed
From my cousin who died age 7 of cancer
And from a suicide that was never the answer
From my parents who soon got a divorce
I am from these moments for better or worse
