Where I’m From

I am from ripped jeans

and climbing trees

From mud puddles in the yard

to open fencing that called my name.

I am from the darkness of the night,

with shaded clouds which easily hid my face.

From the warmth of a dog on my lap

to the hurt of betrayal the next day it had gone.

I am from loneliness felt

and tears of doubt slipping free

From the unknown and uncertain

to the hopes always held too high.

I am from thunderstorms and lightning

and rainy sogged porches

From the pain those close to me caused

to the disappointment faced now.

I am from a heavy heart.
