Where I’m from

I am from “Hands Up”

When you see a white and blue don’t move

i am from a place of blood shed and missed opportunities

Moving to “the place of opportunities”

i am from working 10x harder than little jimmy who was born with a silver spoon and never even touched a broom

I am from needing the basic necessities to needing none

Food stamps were a saving grace to now blowing whole bags on kale and almond milk

I am from “Now i lay me down to sleep...”

Praying I don’t go to hell when I tell white lies.

And making sure i had my best coloring books for church sermons I knew nothing about

I am from everyone knowing my tea before i could even get to the table

I am from family softball game last

I am from family isn’t blood but who is there for you through thick and then like that Tv show girlfriendsss

I am from shake that ass watch yourself

Toont that thang up ...

I am from learning MLK was killed by suffocation and not gun shots

I am from all of this on the Same time line

I am from being deferred from a pretty racist school telling me to do social work and not biology

To some of the top pre med schools calling me

I wrote it to represent my black history through my eyes.
