Where Life Once Thrived

Wind whispers through the dry trees at dawn Brittle and creaking, they stand in stony dust, near a thirsty brook. Where life once thrived, but now is gone. An outpost so strong, so free; now withdrawn. Captured in the minds of those who, caught by fluke, happened upon the nook. Wind whispers through the dry trees at dawn. A bird alights on a branch, rattling the sapless leaves of its awn, Unable to fathom why this place was forsook Where life once thrived, but now is gone. Clouds gathered by cool breezes until, dispelled by the sun They left the refuge as the seasons change partook. Wind whispers through the dry trees at dawn. A community of creatures, uniting upon Thriving times when water rippled through the brook. Where life once thrived but now is gone. In search of relief wavers a water-lusting fawn, But long ago was the last drop drawn. Wind whispers through the dry trees at dawn, Where life once thrived but now is gone.
