Where My Body Shall Lay...

Location

Oh, my love, when this world pulls me away
Will you frequent the plot of ground where my body shall lay
Will you still tell me the stories of your long, tiring days
And share with me your love even as my body decays

Even as your knees grow weak when you kneel
And your back aches
And hands tremble

Don’t bring me flowers, I’ll desire so much more

Oh, my love, will you tell me the stories of life
Of how you continue to live despite the strife
Of losing a friend, a joker, part of your family, a wife

Or, my love, promise to listen if I go to your grave
Hear the whispered words that I may not know how to say
To your keen, or aged, ear that waits at heaven’s gates

Please send me your love from paradise when times are hard
And ask God to let the breeze wrap me up like your arms
And the sting of the cold kiss my cheeks like your lips

And if my knees dent the turned soil that will cause new growth
Please hold my heart next to yours when either of us leave this Earth
