Wherever the Wind Takes Me
I am a leaf on a tree full of leaves,
I lie adjacent to others like me.
Some can be dull and others are even bright,
We face the same summer days and winter nights.
A product of the environment, we feel so small.
But we watch and witness the world and see almost all.
My tree branches off keeping me safe and warm,
Even when up I’m up against the great windstorm.
I might crumble and could fold and maybe even rip,
But if I almost fall I’ll catch myself even if I flip.
I will tightly try to hold on, I’m so scared of it all
But when one leaf cannot hold on, it shivers and falls.
And when that leaf does stray alone
The wind decides where it’s to go.
Vulnerable, uneasy, I’m not in control.
I reflect on myself, and my life as a whole.
I am a leaf on a tree full of leaves,
And I will go wherever the wind takes me.
