while I lay my life for you

Location

My life in the military is not so grand

even though it has its days

I am Honored to defend my land

I yonder to be where my family stays

while I lay my life for you

I remember when I thought it would be my last breath

as the explosion took place

hoping this wouldn't be my death

my mind begins to race

while I lay my life for you

I remember when  I looked into my child eyes

I gave my husband a hug and kiss

filling their minds and hearts with lies

Putting them at ease and bliss

while I lay my life for you

I close my eyes for a second

the blast taking its time to meet my mind

death making its unfortunate beckon

how could I have been so blind

While I lay my life for you

I return home to see my family's crying faces

my daughters face in my husbands chest

I ask why are you sad and where are my embraces?

My smile diminishing less and less

While I lay my life for you

I see them wearing all black

My husband is presented a flag, the trumpets playing, and I hear the guns

my mind is off track

I realized I laid my life for you.
