While we're young
I want to live
before life becomes
a list of things I have to do.
I want to miss the last bus
and laugh about it later,
dance badly in the middle of a street,
buy flowers
just because they looked pretty.
I want random plans
and unfinished conversations,
midnight walks,
too much coffee,
and photographs
I don't remember taking.
I want friends
who turn ordinary evenings
into stories we'll tell
when we're old.
I want to say yes
to things that scare me,
take the long way home,
get lost in a city
I've never seen before.
I want days
that don't need to be productive
to be worth remembering.
Because maybe life
was never meant to be
a perfect timeline—
maybe it's supposed to be
a little messy,
a little loud,
a little ridiculous.
Maybe we're supposed to fall,
get up,
change our minds,
fall in love,
fall out of love,
and still keep going.
So while we're young,
let's not spend every minute
waiting for life to begin.
Let's go outside.
Let's make mistakes
worth remembering.
Let's laugh
until our stomachs hurt.
Let's stay up too late
talking about everything
and nothing.
Let's live so fully
that one day,
when someone asks us
what we did with our youth,
we won't have to think.
We'll just smile
and say—
I lived it.
