Whisper
I watch you sleep in a daze,
But my mind quickly turns into a maze.
A whisper of a name not my own,
My world turns into a dark gray haze.
Am I just one of your prey?
Nothing comes to mind to say,
There seems to be, in the pit of my stomach - a stone.
I just don't want to throw everything away.
I think back to the night we met,
You came to talk to me on a bet.
You walked over with a drink in your hand,
The look on your face is one I can't seem to forget.
Your eyes dark green,
In June it was day fifteen.
Every step you took landed with the beat from the band.
The shirt you were wearing was aquamarine.
My mind quickly moves to our first date,
In June it was day twenty-eight.
Of the plans I was a little afraid,
You helped me because on my own I couldn't skate.
Weeks after came and went,
Hours together our time was spent.
You even learned to put my hair into a braid.
Our dates became movies on the couch so we wouldn't spend a cent.
All of the memories start to blur,
And you begin to sleepily stir.
The feelings are starting to fade to none,
For it is no longer "are," it is now "were."
I guess this just wasn't meant to be.
Once you get up I hope you can see,
This is it, I am done.
I leave and turn off the lights behind me.
