The Whisper in the Wind

The picture fluttered to the ground, A glimpse of her by the shore. Remembering the solemn sound, And the slamming of the door. A vague sense of awareness; The numbing silence of goodbye. The thump of a ghostly heartbeat, And the shining tears he cried. He called her up that morning, A gleaming gun held in his hand. The phone just kept on ringing, And he didn’t understand. The gunpoint reached his temple. He begged for a second chance. His finger pulled the trigger, As he remembered their first dance. A vague sense of awareness; The numbing silence of goodbye. The thump of a ghostly heartbeat, And the shining tears he cried. His body hit the pavement, And the pulse began to slow. A figure appeared before him, A voice that shouted “NO!” She stayed with him for seven days, And he wiped the tears from her eyes. Then he told her that he had to go, And that he’d always be by her side. As he shimmered into nothing, She whispered “I love you.” Suddenly the wind picked up, And whistled, “I love you too.” A vague sense of awareness; The numbing silence of goodbye. The thump of a ghostly heartbeat, And the shining tears he cried.
