A touch, a kiss, a whispered lie dressed up to look like a promise.
The dirty word “affair” is whispered, but never spoken aloud.
We pretend not to see what is right in front of us.

A tear, a scream, and the whispered lie, “It won’t happen again.”
The dirty word “abuse” is whispered, but never spoken aloud.
We pretend not to see what is right in front of us.

A gunshot, a thump, and finally the end of the whispering lies.
The word murder is screamed in the streets.
We pretend not to see what is right in front of us,
Until it is too late.
