Whispers

it was fine, great even
                  until it wasn’t
   a familiar stirring within
       whispering everything i’m not
                         maybe never will be
       twisting my stomach into
an unravelable nest of stale desires
a reminder lingers in the air
charged with words I dare not speak

it’s always okay
            until it’s not
