Whispers

Whispers have always been my favorite

The softness of confessions and the hushed laughter so hard to contain

They vibrate in my chest for days after

They sound like trust

They feel like love

When I lie awake at night I count the whispers

The moments of shared life that don't leave the radius of our two bodies

The confidence and the promise that this world is ours alone

Hot breath stands still between us and our eyes shine with the knowledge that to be open is beautiful and to be connected is transcendent

This isolation is freedom and the two of us travel away from burning eyes and suspicious minds for just an instant

Independent together and unabashedly ourselves

Unapologetic and unwound

I crave the quiet attention, the minutes of indulgence when my words are always heard

But only in a whisper
