White Dove
There once existed a king,
Who possessed many land and fortunes.
His queen had been a prize,
Alas it would be her demise.
Once she grew past her youth,
The king hardly laid with her.
Instead there was another woman
With beauty like no other.
Together, they plotted to kill the queen.
And seemingly her unborn child.
They could not succeed their objective
For the queen could not be affected.
Summer came and a princess was born.
Hair stark as a raven's,
Eyes as warm as a hearth,
And skin as pale as snow.
The queen died in childbirth.
Her last wish filled with mirth.
She wished her daughter would survive 14 winters.
To experience the world before it caught on flames.
Her king put her in the earth.
He married his mistress shortly after the birth.
Then raised his heir,
To be gentle and fair.
In contrast his new queen wanted her child on the throne.
She attempted and failed.
The king would not have it for his missed his queen.
This annoyed his wife to various degrees.
So she killed him,
Simply on a whim.
The princess witnessed this,
And ran away to the woodlands.
It is then our story begins,
Of Sophia's diciplines
10 moons later,
The princess became a commoner.
She lived with 6 uncles and 1 aunt.
At times, they would taunt her flaws
As they had when they found her as a toddler.
In a daily rountine, our princess would dawdle.
It pissed her aunt to no end!
Although her uncles and aunts loved her dearly,
The princess was quite a dunce...like, really.
She would give the scraps to stray animals,
And give a loaf of bread to passerby beggars.
She would reduce the food supply by half every two weeks!
The princess would have to go into the woods often to get the family by.
Ultimately, a pitiful want would change our princess's simple, rural life.
One summer morning while on path, the princess found a hunting knife.
It gleamed in the sunlight.
Flecks of red & blue stained it's sliver color.
The further she walked, the more she noticed there was more blue on the path.
She followed the trail until it veered off the path and lead behind a tree.
Behold! There laid a young man covered in violet blood!
Now any other sensible person would run........
.......Not this girl. She carried him to a cave (for fear her family might send him away).
She dressed his wounds, gave him medicinal herbs, and revived him back to life.
At once the young man fell in love.
He never met a maiden so devoted to a stranger like himself.
Over the course of two week the princess would nurse the man back to health.
Soon as he recovered, the man confessed he was actually a prince of great wealth!
He told her that he was on his way to a king's wedding when he was ambushed by vagrants.
Now that he can return home, the young man wanted to take the princess to be his bride.
Straightaway she refused. She didn't run away from the travesty of kingdom politics just to be married back in.
The princess set the prince on his way demanding that he never search for her.
The prince did not listen and vowed to the heavens she would be his wife.
Narrator's note: If the prince did not exist, her life would probably not have been strife.
The princess carried on about her life as she did.
Forgetting the prince and his foolish desire.
On a breezy autumn noon, the princess's aunt permitted her
To venture to the woods, giving scraps to the critters.
Strolling through the forest, she soon found herself pondering
"If my father had not been killed would I be living in a much more satisfied world?"
The prince popped up in her head.
His arrogance at believing he could make her his bride made her laugh.
"What a stupid prince!" she snickered.
His proposal should have been reconsidered.
When the princess returned she found the Queen's guard near her home.
Fearing her step-mother found her, the princess dashed to save her family.
The princess slammed open the front door yelling, "Auntie & Uncles! Quick! We have to leave!".
She entered the parlor to find a surprise!
The prince, a king, and her step-mother sat across from the family.
This was certainly an anomoly...
Turns out that the prince's father is married to the Queen (a.k.a. the princess's step-mother).
After the prince returned home, he told his father of the maiden who saved him,
He suggested a union but she refused.
Therefore she can't reject if she was forced to marry him!
Narrator's note:Sadly this is what most marriages were like back in the day.
It was at this moment the princess prayed for doomsday.
Overall she could not fight it.
Thank God the Queen did not recognize her.
Unfortunately the princess was whisked away to her old home,
married to the prince (she cringed because technically they were step-siblings),
and the king propositioned to his son that he rule this kingdom.
This pissed off the Queen immensly!
So like the last she slit his throat with a mirror's blade,
Attempted to slip the newly-wed couple some nightshade.
Fortunately she did not succeed for the princess could smell its deathly scent.
Enraged by her step-mother's scheme,
The princess decided to take back her birtright.
So she revealed herself as Princess Sophia,
daughter of winter's crown & autumn's wisdom,
The legitimate heir to this kingdom.
So ensued a power play to feat the true ruler.
By winter solstice the princess had won.
The Queen forced to wear iron shoes and dance at Sophia's coronation.
Albiet, her step-mother prophesized her misfortune.
The Prince was divorced,
Sent back to his kingdom to organize the death of his father.
And now it seemed Sophia could no longer be bothered.
By the fear of her step-mother,
The urge to birth an heir,
Or to live to fourteen winters.
Now Queen Sophia governed her realm with strength & kindness.
Her subjects believed the heavens would be happy with this outcome.
Despite this belief Queen Sophia was assasinated a year later.
Some say at the hands of a traitor.
She lived to 14 winters,
Just in time before her ex-husband invaded her country.
Rather than listen to his adversarial,
Sophia's ex-husband did not place her in a proper burial.
He belived he could find a necromancer to revive her.
Therefore she laid in a glass coffin.
For some reason her corspe did not age.
Neither could the ex-husband discover a good mage.
Years passed,
The ex-husband died long ago.
Presently Queen Sophia is still "asleep",
Her heart does not beat.
Yet she lays in pristine condition.
As if awaiting to be awaken.
Below the castle in a room forsaken,
Perhaps one day this affliction will be over.
Meanwhile it is best to spread the tale of the princess, Sophia Monroe.
