White privilege
I too sing America that white privilege is the same thing as white supremacy .
Calling us words and names of blasphemy,
while my people are laying there dying helplessly.
And you've got the audacity
to tell me I live my life selfishly,
while you sat in your comfortable seat silently,
watching my brothers blood pour out gradually.
My brother was half of me,
but now I get to watch my brother be carried out in a box lifelessly.
He had plans to get married,
not to six feet under be buried,
and definitely not to watch his burdens be given to his mother to be carried.
We may not be blood but the same color we bled
this is one thing growing up in Detroit that we dread,
but racism is a disease that if ignored will quickly spread.
My brother was a leader that lead
Even until his death
because he said
“brother I love you but you need to learn to lead,” with his last breath
So I try to be like him and lead when I can,
no matter the way my life bends.
I've come to a point where my lead has diminished
because I have not learned how to give forgiveness.
I will not forget but will forgive
the people who watched my brother die because the people who watched were
people with White Privilege.
