White Raincoat
My dear pure-white raincoat swallows me whole
Hands in pockets; my hood covers my eyes
I hear the rain falling without control
I see it fall from the pure-white, satin skies
No one but me on the pure white sidewalk
Stretches for miles, the gaps filled by storm
The rhythm of rain keeps time like a clock
The spotted grey sidewalk was white before
My dear white raincoat is now stained grey too
So I watch clouds float because they’re pure white
The clouds blind me, bind me as I leave you
Now my white raincoat suits white clouds alight
But sheets of grey rain run down my shoulders
I am glad here, though the wind is colder
