Who?
Who will speak when they’re told to keep silent?
who will act to uncover the lies?
who will stand against prejudice, hatred, and fear
when it’s safer to cover their eyes?
When the right path is long and uncertain,
when the mind disagrees with the heart,
when it would be so easy to follow the crowd
who among us can travel apart?
We face hatred,cruel bigotry, ignorance,
and the treacherous whispers of doubt
but the true challenge is, in a battle like this,
you can neither back down, nor lash out
Then is there an easier option?
there is, But I think you will find
that apathy is a slow poison, quite painless,
that weakens and deadens the mind
And if there’s a price for resistance
far greater the price of defeat
for we are connected, all part of a whole
divided, we’re all incomplete
So where is the hope in this struggle?
are we truly so lost in the dark?
is there then no light at the end of the poem?
“Keep courage and an open heart.”
We all have the strength to be heroes
we’re imprisoned, but we hold the keys
it takes courage to love unconditionally,
but that is the foundation of peace.
