Who Am I?
Dear WHO AM I
I don’t want to answer your question any more
I’m done with
Stereotypes
Rules
And authoritative figures
When I was younger
You hung over my head like a for sale sign
You were tall, but limpy
Barely breathing from all
Your lies
If I wanted to be defined I would sit at a desk
And write every detail of my life
via my mother's distorted mind
I don’t want you anymore
I refuse to be
Seen through your dark blue eyes
WHO AM I
Can you please go away
I know many people who sit in the dark at night pondering
The Future
As if the future was down the street
Two feet behind them
Around the corner
Or a sudden stop on a devils death train
If the world stopped spinning
or
People couldn’t breathe
Do you know the one thing on their mind
It wouldn’t be I might be dead; It's, What’s next?
Our brains never stop calculating like we’re a machine
Our thoughts are like ions
They keep going until it hits something else
We think of the future
that thought becomes
What is the future
Who will I be
Will I make a difference
Am I going to hell or heaven
I mean, dag
Who Am I, can we stop playing your chest game
with nondescriptive words
and untold hero stories
My mother never allowed me to breathe between
Doctor, lawyer, scientists and bread maker
I never got to answer the big question
No, Will you marry me?
The bigger question
WHO AM I
After being pushed into a box of leather straps and metal tape
I, for one, will never let a question define who I will be
This is my journey
If the streetlight turns red then it's my time to take a breather
If the mouse gives me the cheese then I’ll make it into cheddar
Dear WHO AM I
I wish you a final farewell because unlike others
I am not a sucker of unwanted attention
I seek to love myself and not fall for the future me
When I finally meet you
I hope to show you
That although you have sat at the edge of my amygdala
I never thought for a few moments that you
Really could help me
WHO AM I, say hello to
Future me, I hope you never miss me
