Who Am I

I've tried my whole life to find it See I was raised right Went to church and praised right Hit the books every night I was the good kid I never got in fights But there was one question that lingered in my mind Who really am I See in High School I was a people pleaser I cared too much about what people thought of me See I subconsciously thought that it would be easier To be someone else than trying to be completely me See I was paying for something that I already had for free Most days it felt like I was in sunken place Out of body experience inside looking out    Longing to be liberated It was hard to get out It was never depression however just a feeling of lost potential I had always talked to my parents and listened to motivational tapes and they made it sound  so simple Then I had "But God" moment And it hit me one day when my mom said people don't have a heaven or hell to put me in I recognized that I cared too much about what people thought of me Which created a lack of confidence in myself A change was needed Then like DJ Khaled, another one hit me This one was by Les Brown it was an old african proverb that said If there is no enemy within the enemy outside can do me no harm So I took that with me and I came to UNT I started to embrace it With the help of those around me that I keep in my circle I felt that I was in a community where my confidence was lifted Even though my grades are all right I felt my fate is changing It slowly rearranging My power of influence is getting stronger Call me Goku cuz I felt like I was going super saiyan I finally see it I finally see it It took me a while but now I believe it That glimmer of hope it hasn’t receded Now it's my chance it's time to seize it I'm finally starting to believe in me Like the real me Like the genuine me Like me, that'll keep it 100 No matter who you are or your personality Now I would make like a Disney movie and call it a happy ending But that's simply not the case I'm not at the level that I want to get in life I still have work to do But I would rather do the work to become the best version of me then to be the fake version to all of you.
