Who Am I?

Who Am I? As I wait at this bus stop Hot and tired I think to myself what’s for dinner? Thoughts of roast, mashed potatoes and corn came to mind. Around the corner I heard a screeching noise, The bus was coming. WoooooooW! I sigh with relief My feet swollen and aching from a long day of hard labor All I wanted was a seat! As the bus came to a complete stop People began to load Us colored folks sat in the back, but today it was full Like a church house on Easter Sunday. As we began to pull off, a man, a white man, Yells “Stop that bus!” The bus stops, and he boards the bus Of course he noticed I was sitting in the right seat But a seat is a seat, I needed to rest my feet. The man approached me asking for my seat. I began to think, “Do he know how hard I work today?” Then I remembered he don’t care!! I said “No sir” as polite as I could The police arrived and I was arrested. Not because I wouldn’t give up my seat But because I took a stand! I sat in that jail cell not regretting a thing Because I refused to move, Not for me and my tired feet, But for YOU!! I am Rosa Parks By Patience Taylor (poems go here)
