Who Am I?

We begin with innocence

We end with guilt

In the quest for success

we can lose ourselves

I think I know myself

then I wake up in the morning

look in the mirror

and see a reflection of someone I don’t even recognize

I see a face

split in half

one side showing how society perceives me to be

one side a blur

foreshadowing an image of the future that God has planned for me

I dream

of fulfilling the expectations of what is expected of me

of proving to everyone that I am special

irreplaceable

worth something...

if only dreams were real

One can find it hard to dream

when you close your eyes and only see nightmares

people say surround yourself with good

they don’t realize you are like a plague

where everything you touch, crumbles

anxiety

depression

failure

so many thoughts in the back of your mind

standing in the way of being happy

it is like being underwater

looking up and seeing the sunlight filter in

although the deep darkness beneath you looks appealing

you fight your way to the surface because that is where you are destined to be
