Who am I?

I am from flying wing guardians

From a society that underestimates a woman’s abilities and a

Wide held belief that they are to be life-long friends with brooms, dustpans, and pots

I am from seeds that flourish with sunlight and consistent scent of arroz con leche

I am from ceaseless values that govern my everyday life making me the richest for the possession of these real GOLD nuggets

I am from processed corn wrapped around corn husks, grapes and juice that comes in a Martinelli’s bottle

I am from Georgina and Guillermo whose past generations have drilled a message

A reminder of stretching out our hands and releasing doves

I am from the cross, ALWAYS trying to follow the 10 commandments in the pursuit of becoming sagacious

I am from, “Quires progresar tienes que estudiar”

And “Eres lo major que dios me ha dado”

But one thing I tell myself every day is, “You either see the cup half full or half empty”

I am from red roses, cupids, warm hugs, and kisses

I represent two eagles: one holding olives, leaves and arrows in his feet and another eagle clutching a snake

I am from mole, posole, enchiladas but ultimately retrograde to frijoles, calabazas, nopales y tortillas

I am from the earliest heroes I have ever met- my parents

In their mission to reach the land of the free

And here I am… with my magnifying glass

My hunger for acquiring more of the “Tree of Life” is my ultimate passionate desire

I am a metamorphosis from a defenseless caterpillar to a stronger and powerful butterfly

I am more than what people believe who I am or what they expect me to be

I am aware that life’s journey will be arduous

BUT with tenacity and determination I will succeed

I am a go-getter, hard-working, and optimistic woman

… And this is who I truly am.
