Who am I do you ask?
Who am I do you ask?
You tell me to be authentic- to peel off that mask
But how do I convey something to you that I rarely see?
Underneath the surface, the lies, tangled in confused misery
But I’ll tell you something, I’ll do my best.
I’ll humor you and describe myself; you figure out the rest.
Behind all the filters, I am a girl in this world looking to make a change.
I am eager, I am curious, some do call me strange.
I see the world through a different eye.
I want to love, I want to live, I want those things you can’t buy.
I have hopes, I have dreams, I have questions unanswered.
But what sets me apart? Now that I can’t answer, not in this manner.
The most authentic part of me is that I do not know.
Where my life will lead me; the places I’ll go
Behind the filters, behind the masks, behind all that hides truth
I am eager to begin my life, to be someone, to grow out of my youth.
But I promise you this, because you did ask first, remember?
I’ll stay true to myself, whoever that is, now and forever.
