Who are We?

We are who we are,

You can't change that.

Your face, your hair,

that zit on your nose

are all too difficult to change.

Except for now, in our technological age

we have the power to be who we desire;

We hide who we really are.

Filters, angles, and adjustments

hide our true selves,

our true beauty.

We are taught that our beauty is in the filter,

not in the heart.

Ourselves naturally are ugly.

We have moved from the age of makeup

to one of filters.

We try to hide ourselves,

I refuse.

I love my messy hair, my blemished face, my scruffy look;

because it is me,

it shows my heart.

This is far more beautiful than any filter can create.
