Who are you?

Read between the lines,

It doesnt have to be rhymes,

Unleash your soul,

Soon you'll behold something great, greater than what you believe to be just words

They tell you poetry is for those to creatively free their inner thoughts,

To cleanse their minds, bodies, and souls from the shit they deal with and see on a daily bssis

Find out who you are,

Write,

In this case my words will speak louder than my actions,

Write,

To your senators to help change laws,

Write,

About the careless slaying of our black bodies and police brutality

Write,

To those families who mourn in the loss of their family members to mass shooters,

Write,

About ruthless immigration laws

Write,

On our mass incarceration issues and how a drug charge gets more years than rape

You see poetry has taught me everything I need to know,

Try writing a poem as if you were every single victim,

How does it make you feel?

Now who are you?

Trayon? Philando? Eric? John? Akai? Tamir? Walter?

Oh, its so many to name.

Do you feel me though?

Do you feel their families?

Imagine yourself as a immigrant child being taken away from your parents.

Are you frightened? Cold? Angry?

Who am I?

I am a writer,

I'm learning how to use what I do best, to express my feelings, and the feelings of my fellow black and brown people

Thats what poetry has taught me

This poem is about:
Me
My country
