Who do you see?
She said,
Here is a poem,
that I want you to make your own
Carefully use your time
as you rewrite every line.
But how can I write poem about me
if when I look in the mirror,
I do not know what I see?
I see a girl,
eighteen years of age.
I see a painted face of makeup.
I see brown hair and blue eyes.
But what is it that truly lies inside?
I tend to avoid mirrors,
because when I am confronted with one,
I stop in my tracks.
I look and I look as if searching for someone
between the cracks.
So as I sit here today looking--
I see someone who loves music.
I see someone with insecurities,
covered by a smile.
Someone who loves sleeping and spending time with friends--
yet rarely gets to do either.
Someone who is just beginning
to find--herself.
And just as you think you’re starting to understand who you are
things will change,
You will see!
One day you’ll turn around and ask yourself,
“That was me?”
We’re constantly changing, you and I.
The way we live, think, love,
And one day when I look into this mirror,
I will see happiness and confidence.
I will see someone that I love staring back at me.
That is the day I’ll truly feel free.
So as you look into that mirror,
Who do you see?
