Who else can I be?

I am an unfortunate entity
the product of a faulty system
I have my flaws, I have plenty
I use all in my power to resist them

Why must we conform
Break the train of self-consciousness
You call it life, I call it despair
stop basking in your own self-righteousness

And who are you to tell me
what I am or was meant to be?
Because in your eyes,
Regardless of wether I'm
Straight
Gay
Married
Alone
Right
Wrong
Successful
Unsuccessful
Loving
Evil
Tortured, or happy.
Dead, or alive.

I will ALWAYS be me.

I will scream it from the mountaintops
Carve it in the stone above where I lie,
cold and lifeless.

I WILL be,
The best me I can be,
because if I can't be me,
who else can I be?
