Who I Am

Expression.

What the hell is the point?

Everything now is censored:

our words

our thought

our ideas

our bodies

our faces;

Everything about us is censored.

We post pictures of ourselves photo shopped to cover how we truly look.

We put on makeup to cover our 'imperfections'.

We lie to make a good impression.

We pretend we're someone we're not to seem important,

to seem lucky,

to seem beautiful,

to seem perfect.

When the hell is the point?

No one is perfect.

My words aren't perfect.

I am not perfect.

But at least I try to be the best me I can be.

#nofilter is so much more than a trend;

It's a lifestyle.

It's a struggle.

It's a risk.

Everyone is expected to be the same;

the same boy,

the same girl,

the same cookie cutter personality.

#nofilter helps us destroy that mentality,

and I plan to be there every step of the way.

I am nothing more or less than myself

and I refuse to be who I am not.

I'm an exercise science major at Willamette University with a passion for poetry. I'm pre-med and I'm hoping to pay for college at least in part by showing who I am through my poems. Get to know me better through them, not through a bio.
