Who is John Galt
“Who is John Galt?” the beggar cries, “Who is John Galt?”
The plea catches me by surprise, the hopeless need
Not for a dime but for answers, so then I halt,
And I turn and whisper, “Who indeed? Who indeed?”
“Our leaders say that they are him to win the game
Of politics; and when they fail, ‘It’s not our fault!’
They cry aloud, ‘There must be someone else to blame!
No one can be perfect!’ No one can be John Galt!’”
He laughs, “They’re right,” and despair chills the air around
Us, and I, unable to withstand the assault
Of apathy, cry out, “Look at the sky! The ground!
See the planes and freeways, that’s the work of John Galt!
“John Galt is in every tower of steel and glass
Reaching for the sky. He has built the bridges and
Phone lines connecting us. He’s the artist’s canvas.
He is the one who teaches our children to stand
“Up for what they believe and make their own fate!
I know you’re wrong! Our earth is not yet sown with salt!
For as long as we breathe and strive and create,
In everyone there will always be a John Galt.”
