Who She Was

She grows up with strength and courage,

while embracing her feminine side.

She understands that war is upon them,

and she knows her father is summoned.

She has one brother, 

one of younger age.

She fears for the worst,

and she knows what she must do.

She does not run off of in the middle of the night.

She tells her parents her plan.

She buys what she needs,

and she is gone the next morning.

She is skilled in martial arts,

and she travels thousands of miles.

She rises through 12 promotions,

and the emperor grants her one wish.

She wishes for nothing but to return home,

and so her wish is granted.

She is reunited with her family,

and she resumes her old life.

She is visited by her comrades,

boy, are they in for a surprise.

They ask her why,

and they ask her how.

She tells them,

"if boy rabbit and girl rabbit hop along side by side

no one can tell the difference, 

so that is what I did."

She is not Disney's Fa Mulan,

She is China's Hua Mulan.
