Who Was I Trying to Be?

No one wants someone who is covered in scars,

So I acted as if I wasn't really fall apart,

Like I didn't carry on through this life without a heart,

Now I just wish I could go back to the start.

Because I don't understand why I did all of that,

Why did I put on that mask?

There is no way to pretend like I don't have a past,

So if you want me to change then just ask.

Paralytic expectations of who I should be,

The perfect grades and a flawless face,

Let I seem to fail every one of them.

I'm sorry I can't be perfect like you need me to be,

Isn't it crazy how we all feel lost yet no one helps one another?

Who was I trying to be?

It's finally time to start acting like me.

Because everyone wants someone who seems to be perfect,

Not a kid with an inferior complex who feels so worthless,

A kid like me trying to write broken rhymes when I feel so wordless,

Like somehow I can't even find my own purpose.

But no more looking for reasons to hate myself,

Why did I ever believe that I could become someone else?

I hid my feelings because since you didn't ask, I didn't tell.

Now that I have decided to be myself I know that all will be well.
