Who Were You?
Dear Me,
Do you remember who you were?
Before?
Society told you who to be.
Because you don’t need to be that one skinny girl, on the cover of that one magazine.
We are drilled to pick out imperfections.
Surround ourselves with anticipation of “perfection”.
But the word “perfect” means nothing when you are facing a world called “reality”.
Rain drops dripping from your eyes silently in the dark
Your brain aching with fear of not knowing who you are.
Shivers weep through your spine, because you are terrified.
Terrified of making one wrong shot,
You are frozen in fright.
Why are you, why am I , why are we just always so uneasy?
But that is reality.
Reality is battling to admit the misery that lives with you day by day
No release.
It may feel that you are alone and losing, yet
Everyone is battling an obstacle that won't leave.
Do you remember who you were before society told you who to be?
Do you remember that small town girl living in a lonely world?
Because that girl, she had a dream.
Every animal’s heart in your hands.
Making a difference was her true destiny.
That girl took on reality.
“They” are all wrong
See, you don’t need to be an Oscar-winning actress,
VS supermodel, or have a PHD if that was not what you were meant to breath.
As long as you feel fulfilled in life
That’s the only victory people will see.
But if you still cant view reality,
Go ahead and waste your valuable time stressing over image.
Hide all the sorrow in your heart behind a stack of cash by your feet.
Shield below every mountain so you don’t face defeat.
Camouflage the most accurate thing that will stay with your life through eternity.
But ask yourself just one more thing…
“Do you remember who you were before society told you who to be?”.
Sincerely,
Me
