Who you were

i look at her, who is she?

she looks like me?

why is she smiling?

i can't remember who i was before the sadness wrapped its arms around me

cloaked me and bathed me in its warmth

refusing to release me from its familiar grip

i guess i outgrew her

that girl in the picture

no

i starved her

i left her to fend for herself

and befriended a more caliginous comrade

i wouldn't know if she survived on her own

or if she's still where i left her

i hope she's doing better than i am

i hope i can have the courage one day

to tell her

i wish i listened more

i wish i didn't let the noise cloud my mind

i wish i asked her what she wanted

what she knew she deserved

i hope she can forgive me

i hope one day i'll be the person she needed

every day i push forward

for her
