A Whole Lot of Words; A Whole Less of You

I guess I was too good

At acting like I didn't care;

Because now I've got you fooled

And taking back all you shared.

At a loss for words,

I'm thinking,

I'm here fumbling to recollect

All of the pieces of me

That I didn't know

Shattered when you left.

You pulled me out to the highest ledge

And I hoped you would be there to catch.

But when I cried out,

Reaching for your hand

You pushed me away saying,

"We're just friends!".

You said you wanted a sister in me.

You said that we could never be.

But those were all the things I tried to say

Before you went and touched me.

Now it burns in the places where your skin met mine

And my heart drops to a pit.

I don't think I will ever remember the innocence

That you told me to forget.

But lovely things,

You did tell me.

You whispered in my ear

Until I wanted,

Craved more and more,

All I got to hear.

And now that I need it,

You rip it away

Saying it never should have been.

Could never be.

You took it all back.

What do you mean you never loved me?

And now you're telling me about another girl

Telling my family she wants to meet us.

And now I have to act like I don't care,

Excited like the rest of them

Because they didn't know about you and I

And I hope they never know about

Us.

Maybe I should stop acting

But that I already tried

And you've got me all mixed up and confused

Can't you see I'm broken inside?

I guess acting isn't really for me.

Just look where it's gotten me now.

And in days to come it will probably hurt less

And be easier when you come around.

It's more of inner struggle though

No one else even knows that

I'm trying to go back

To the girl I used to be

How that girl used to act

Before she got confused and pulled

Into something so very costly

But something that cost you so very little

Something you thought was so very replaceable.
