To whom it may concern,

To conform is to lose a piece of my soul.
Why do you want to live through my life?
I don’t wish to be like you.
I just want to be me.
I thank you for giving birth to me,
But animals give birth to babies too and actually raise them.
What good values have you instilled in me?
What should I remember you for?
I don’t have those rosy-pink growing up memories like some kids I know.
Despite all this, I don’t hate you for I can’t expect you to give me the love you don’t have to give.
But don’t, I say, don’t rob me of my dreams.
This is my life.
I will make mistakes,
Let me learn from them.
I am beyond caring whether or not you love me or care for me.
For I know I am not alone.
Live your life and let me live mine.
I will tell you this: for every tear, for every pain, every hurt will only make me stronger.
I am like the ordinary carbon that becomes a diamond under immense heat and pressure.
And in time, I will shine.
I will shine.
