To Whom It Will Concern
This letter is for the boy who will grow up
He will be told he can have the world
To set it on fire, to have it eat of his hands
He will know the rush of fun, the thrill friends
The boy will believe he’ll have the fountain of youth in his cup
This letter is for the boy who will know growing pains
He will feel his body twist and turn with angst
To set the tone for his future, his mind will warp his dreams to illusions
He will know what it’s like to live his days with an unearned confidence, yet rife with confusion
The boy will begin to fear his mark in this world won’t even amount to stains
This letter is for the man who grew and continues to
He was told he could have the world
To grow is to realize it is foolish to want such a thing
He will have learned long ago that his calling was different, with a more joyous ring
The man will continue to build his own world and nurture and cherish. That’s what he’ll do.
