To Whomever... Or Maybe To a Whatever.

Dear Future Partner,

I wonder what you like to be called

              Sweetie, Honey, Amor, Love

Or perhaps you’d rather be mauled

So maybe instead I should ask

              What is your name truelove?

              What do you look like?

              Are you fierce or fair?

Do you smoke and not care?

              Would you dance despite

              The watchful world’s eyes?

              One last question, my prize

              Are you even human?

You could be the summer’s breeze

Or the beautifully bruised night sky

You could be joy, laughter, and a wheeze

Or the colors of fall and a yummy pie

No… Maybe something more tangible. No?

Then perhaps you’re my missing heart

The thing always there and never seen

My hidden passions and forgotten dreams

My reason to study, work hard, and sometimes starve

Whatever you are. Whoever you are.

              Don’t stray too far

We have all the time in the world

If the world was a ticking clock

So walk forward, run faster, jump farther

Or you may be too late

Sincerely your future partner.
