Who's There To Listen?

You say nobody listens That your words are not heard The sun, above the pond glistens In the air’s the song of a bird Mom and dad worry Because you hardly talk They play a special jury Helping you on your life’s walk Listen to them when they say Best be up and doing Don’t think them in the way Their love is truly moving So really we’re all listening We care so very much You alone must see which piece is missing For life to be in touch

This poem was written in response to a short story titled Nobody Listens When I Talk, written by Annette Sanford (b.1929) I felt a strong connection to the situation described in her work, so I composed this poem as a response to what she wrote.
